UPDATE: Problem solved. The original security email was, in fact, from facebook. They changed my password and everything is right with the world....sigh.
So, my facebook account was disabled. Today, I think. Earlier today I received this email:
And now when I try to log in to facebook, I see this:
Clicking the "faq" tells me that my facebook was deactivated because I violated the terms of use. Maybe my profile picture was a copyrighted image. I did change the spelling of my name to a phonetic mis-spelling. Does that mean I was impersonating another person? Was that huffington post article about celebrity breast implants considered "pornographic"? Or is that what happens when your account gets "compromised"?
I didn't reply to the email asking me for my first teacher's name. Facebook was acting strangely yesterday. Like fb chat would suddenly be open, when I'm always offline because I hate that feature. And the status message I posted last night mysteriously and suddenly disappeared. I thought I had mis-clicked.
What do you think? Should I reply to the "facebook team" email? Should I fight to get my stupid social networking profile back? Should I bask in a simpler life uncorrupted by silly online stalking?

What, using the Facebook App for the pope's website that was just released today isnt enough to make you want to use fb again?

I told you to stop soliciting sex on social networking sites, but noOo...
Fight the powers that be!
If there's a number to call somewhere on the Facebook site, I would do that so you can avoid clicking on or replying to anything that would potentially release hordes of malicious computer crap. I can't help but think that if you did anything wrong that a warning would be issued before they actually disabled your account. Everything seems fishy to me. Call me paranoid, but I just saw a news story about two kids beating up and robbing an elderly man in a wheel chair, so my faith in humanity is a bit lessened of late.
At the same time, I have to laugh at the irony here. It's like the instructions of those phone companies that say, "If your phone line is down, call us for assistance." Facebook tells you to change your passwords, but you can't even access your account to do it.
Also, this is sad because every communication we've had on facebook is now gone. :( And on occasion it looks like I'm talking to myself.
amanda, if your posts are gone, omg- thats like years of our lives wasted on wall spam!
you must for all that is holy demand the return of the wall spam!
the internet is archived, they must have it somewhere in space and time
live long and prosper!
ok, well i just saw star trek with margaret sooo imma very spock friendly now
i totally agree with sara and david. ash however i will disagree with
It would be sad, indeed, to lose all of the brilliant and insightful things I have said on facebook. I don't know if that's what happens when your account is disabled. I did email fb (not the sketchy email address that emailed me, but the email address you're supposed to email when your account was disabled "by mistake"), and I'll keep you posted. Until then, I feel cut off from the world. :(
